As should be clear enough from our “About Us” section, In Dark Times is not meant to be merely a site for opinion and analysis. Because our concerns all revolve around the urgent need to protect our democratic republican traditions, to vouchsafe their potential even where they have thus far fallen disappointingly short, In Dark Times has a practical intent.
As a result, the term “survival” in this Survival Guide column does not refer to “bare survival.” Rather, the survival that is referred to here is survival strategies, tools, tips, and even tricks needed to help empower the left-progressive who, like ourselves, now feels compelled to find our way into active resistance to what is happening in our political culture, to move into a deliberate and militant anti-fascism in a whole range of ways, both small and large.
We have entered a stage of political conflict in the US where the basic attitudes and institutional mechanisms that normally support resolution through compromise are now effectively superseded by the conditions of out and out political struggle.
